| NGO Independent Life Founded in 1997 Tartu Non-governmental Organization "Independent Life" is an apolitical non-governmental organization founded on private persons and is acting in compliance with the laws of the Republic of Estonia. The mission of the organization is to integrate persons with mental disabilities into the society by increasing their independence, offering permanent residence and employment opportunities and providing support and guidance in every way according to the needs of the person. FOUNDATION Non-governmental Organization "Independent Life" was founded in Tartu in 1997. The organization grew out of the Tartu Care Center of Mental Health. The idea of the foundation of the NGO "Independent Life" arose from the need to find the solution to the unemployment problem of people with special psychical needs. In 2001 with the help of the Canadian Center of Mental Health in addition to the supported work also the service of supported living was created. This service enables people with special psychical needs to live in the flats of the collective home type. Since 2002 organization provides also day center service.
